Swatch is going its own way with smartwatch software
Swatch is on its way into the smartwatch market but not tapping into Android Wear from Google but using its own proprietary software. Company CEO Nick Hayek confirmed the details, as reported by Bloomberg, stating that the Swatch owned Tissot brand would have a homebrew smartwatch ready for launch in by the end of 2018.
So, Swatch are starting from scratch, appears to be a bold move, but this is a company that made gaudy looking timepieces all the rage in the 80’s – We think they can pull it off.
Swatch has said that the aim is to reduce battery power and protect user’s data better, targeting the biggest two areas that come up for discussion where mobile devices are concerned.
Swiss watch maker Tag Heuer has already announced its second-gen Connected model based on Android as has Montblanc, also using Android.
Further details on what the functionality might exactly be are scant but going the bespoke route might well pay off for Swatch – We eagerly await further details.
